What is Easter?

What is Easter? What is its purpose? Why do we take time to celebrate this day? In our culture it is mostly a time filled with chocolate, bunnies, brightly colored eggs, ham and pretty new dresses. Some spend it with family and some may visit a church they haven’t been to in a while. And hear me say, these things, in and of themselves, are not bad. I mean, who doesn’t love chocolate? Or getting a new dress? But Easter is so much more than Peeps and Cadbury Eggs. Easter is a holiday that brings hope more than any other. Easter is the culmination of Jesus’ whole life, everything that he was sent from heaven to do. That is the reason my heart bursts with joy on this day.

Easter is a day we celebrate that Jesus not only died a bloody death on a cross for our sins, but that death could not defeat him. He fully died on Friday, but rose back to life on Sunday. He was buried in the ground and three days later was walking and talking with his friends and followers again. This is amazing, but how does it affect my life right now, more than two thousand years later? Because his defeating death means that we too can defeat it through a relationship with him. He allows us to share in this victory with him!

Jesus gives us access to the ruler of the heavens in a way we can not obtain on our own. Due to our sin and imperfection, we are necessarily separated from God. Without Jesus we spend an eternity separated from God and his glory. But with Jesus, we defeat death and sin. We can spend an eternity WITH God. Through belief in the redeeming love of Jesus, belief in his death on the cross and his victory over death through his resurrection, we have hope. Hope in a way that we can not get any other way. Not through relationships with people, not through money or power, not through worship of other things.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. ~Romans 10:9-10

That’s all we have to do. We can’t earn it or buy it. There is nothing we can do to be worthy of the gift we receive through Jesus. It doesn’t matter how much money we have or how righteously we live or who our ancestors are. The gift is available to all equally. All we have to do is confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead. This relationship with Jesus that is so much more than religion is the only thing that can bring us true hope in this nasty, sinful, hard world.

So this Easter, I plan to celebrate with all my heart what Jesus did for us all those Sundays ago. To thank God for his free gift to us all and worship a good and loving God that had a plan to redeem me from my sinful, messed up life that I may not perish, but have everlasting life. And I will pray that people all around me, from all different backgrounds, will have joy overflowing from their hearts too, from the confession they have made of their belief in Jesus.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. ~John 3:16-17

It’s That Time of Year

Merry Christmas! We love this time of year…Jesus’ birthday, cold weather (sort of), good chocolate, and gift giving!

To think that we’ve been passing out gifts like these for seven years at many different clubs in Tucson seems unreal. If this is your first time receiving a gift from us, we hope you enjoy it. If you’ve received many, we hope you get excited about the goodies each time a gift comes to you. Either way, we would love to hear from you. Leave a comment or pop over to the “Just for Dancers” page and send us your contact information and we will send you another package. We would love to strike up a friendship with you!

Below is a video of a group of us putting the gifts together. We take a lot of time and joy in picking out each item. Please enjoy watching the process and know that you are continually thought of and prayed for!

Merry Christmas from your friends at Cord of Hope** (Second Mile.)

**We’ve changed the name of our group that gives gifts for a couple of reasons:

One, we love hope. We love what it stands for, we love how it makes us feel, we love what it offers. Each gift we give in the Name of Jesus is given with the hope that whoever receives it will know the hope that Jesus offers.

Two, Second Mile (our church) is growing…a lot. We want to make sure that people who buy gifts, put gifts together, and give the gifts are all on the same page. Second Mile still supports these efforts, but the church is also starting all kinds of different opportunities to love all kinds of different people in our community. Cord of Hope provides an opportunity to love women in the adult entertainment industry of Tucson.

If you have any questions about our name change, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Gift Bag Assembly for Easter

Assembly Night

Here’s a couple of photos taken while we assembled the gifts:

Merry Christmas!

Last night we passed out about 100 beautiful Christmas gifts, 8 managers gifts, and 10 bags of baked goodies for bouncers and DJs. We were met with smiles and hugs. So many of the women know us and look forward to seeing us arrive with colorful, lotion-filled, chocolate flowing presents.

If you received a gift, please take a look around the website. Click on the Second Mile sign on the sidebar to visit our official church website. We truly do love you and would love to hear from you!

Have a very merry Christmas!!

A Safe Place to Learn and Worship

This is a just a reminder that if you would really like to attend a church worship service, but don’t want to be judged, ignored, or looked down upon, Second Mile is the place for you.  People from all walks of life come to our church.  You can wear whatever your comfortable in… your favorite jeans or cut-off shorts.  Come sit in the back, right smack dab in the middle, or front and center.  You can come early or sneak in late.

We’ve been taking gifts to the clubs for six years now. We will continue to do so whether dancers decide to come or not. Hopefully, some of you truly know we value and pray for you!

Chocolate and Gobstoppers

We delivered four plastic pumpkins stuffed full of candy to Bunny Ranch, Candy Store, and Tens this evening. It may take a small army to finish off all that candy, or maybe just some dancers who need a sweet tooth fix.

Please know that we think about you throughout the year. You are loved!

Happy Easter!

Easter is a time that people who are followers of Jesus celebrate when he died on the cross for us and then rose again from the dead.  This is the foundation of belief for a follower of Jesus.  What is exciting about this is that his tomb was empty so that our lives can be full!  Can you imagine?  He took on all of the emptiness of the world for all time so that we could have full abundant lives.  It is our prayer that you will experience Jesus Christ in a new and full way this Easter!

A group of about 20 people gathered to put together the Easter gifts.  It is a fun night of celebration as we carefully choose the right color bag, the perfect smelling lotion, the stationary or frame that looks the best with the rest of the colors.  Each gift is purposefully created.  We hope that you loved what you received. Please leave a comment and tell us your favorite part of your Easter gift.  Let us know what was awesome, what you could do without, any good ideas that we can add in the future.  We do this to bless you and to let you know that you are loved!

'Tis the Season

We are excited to be giving out 170 beautiful Christmas gifts this weekend! We will be visiting Tens, the Bunny Ranch, the Candy Store, and Turbulence. This year we filled the bags with Victoria Secret lotion, jewelry, socks or gloves, other unique items, and of course, chocolate. It is a gift any woman would be excited to receive.

As always each gift has a Second Mile artist designed book of Jesus’ birth taken straight from the Bible. It is our hope that the dancers will read the awesomeness of Jesus coming to earth and that the gift we give them will be a small reminder that Jesus has so much more to give than we could ever ask or imagine.

If this is your first time visiting our brand new super cool website, welcome!! Take a look around, submit a comment, shoot us an email. Dancers, we love you and look forward to hearing from you.

Merry Christmas!!

Happy Halloween

For the past five years, Second Mile has been taking gift bags to dancers in men’s clubs at Easter and Christmas. These are beautiful bags and we are glad to be able to bless dancers in this way. We are excited that this year we have been able to expand and today we brought big buckets of Halloween candy to leave in the dressing rooms of the clubs. We hope to be able to remind the girls that we love and care for them throughout the year. Happy Halloween!
