What is Hope?

The word hope conjures up different thoughts for all of us. “I hope the leftovers in the fridge aren’t rotten. I hope this dress doesn’t make me look fat. I hope I can pay my bills. I hope I’ll be safe tonight. I hope someone loves me. I hope I’ve been good enough in the end.”

Hope defined is “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.” Our hope sometimes seems dashed on a daily basis. We feel disappointed in ourselves, or someone we love. The outcome of whatever we engage in turns out differently than we had expected and then our hope fades.

The Bible says that Jesus is true hope. It says that Jesus is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. It says that we can put our hope fully in Jesus who offers us grace and doesn’t demand payment for any wrongs we have done. Jesus is the only true source of our life and the only hope that our lives will turn out for the best.

Jesus Christ came to the earth, lived a perfect life, condemned no one, loved us so much that he was willing to sacrifice himself for all of the wrong things that everyone in the whole world had ever done. He died on a cross for our sin. Amazingly, three days later he rose from the dead! The Bible says to call on Jesus and He will save you from sin and give you purpose, a future, and hope. He is life, truth, grace, love, and hope for everyone who believes in Him.
